Corinne Spies - St Jean de Fos Master Potter
Corinne makes original and unique pieces pottery that are very special. She works on her own, designing and creating a wide range of beautifully crafted designs for her vases and jars.
The vases are all made in moulds, to which Corinne then applies her distinctive designs - all sculpted by hand. The vases are fired in her workshop using glazes that she mixes herself.
The resulting range colour nuances - honey, ivory, blue, green, turquoise and red - is an individual mark of Corinne's workshop.
Finally she applies a gentle antique patina that is a subtle and alluring silky matt. A natural resin finish provides added protection.
St Jean de Fos, a small village where the river Herault emerges from its gorge, boasted over 70 artisan potters in its heyday during the 18th century and today the community of potters continue to make some the most beautiful traditional vases in the mediterranean region.
These beautiful vases and lanterns are for use outside and for interior use. However , although they have been fired to very high temperatures, and are sealed with a resin finish inside and out for added protectionh, they should be brought in under cover during cold and frosty weather |
