Traditional terracotta pottery from Provence
The Ravel family have been making pots in southern Provence for five generations. Founded in 1837, the pottery is still based at its original location in the heart of Aubagne. Until now, this beautiful terracotta, beloved of landscape designers, could only be obtained in a selection of garden shops or by visiting the pottery. Catriona McLean is, therefore, delighted to be able to offer Ravel's entire range here on her web site.
Ravel's exceptional vases, pots and jarres are made with their own clay from the Aubagne area, mixed with two other lighter coloured clays to give a unique texture to create the soft sanded -Ravel†terracotta. The clay is organic and recyclable and absolutely pure.
The pottery is made in the traditional way using moulds, then hand finished, before the slow drying and long firing process (78 hours in the kiln) to ensure the highest quality of consistency and regularity. Every piece carries the Ravel stamp, together with the potter's own initials and the date of creation.
Ravel is simply in a league of its own for quality, style and creativity. Their collections are admired by designers, landscapers, architects and gardeners throughout the world.
